Empathy is extremely important for connecting us to others and in maintaining positive and healthy relationships. Because it involves opening ourselves up to others, empathy can also be challenging to manage. If we do not learn ways to manage the empathy and compassion which we give to others, we risk burning out and being unable to provide care to ourselves and others.
In our WellnessTalk, Managing Empathy, Tammy Zumbo, LCSW-R, will define what empathy is, and identify the qualities of an empathic person . She will explore how empathy can impact our lives both professionally and personally. Participants will discover how being empathic affects them on a physical, intellectual and spiritual level. Participants will identify each of these areas and how they have personally experienced this. Participants will learn ways to help themselves manage their empathic gifts through exercises that support their own energy levels and disconnect from the energy of others when necessary.
